About your Diploma

By studying Sociology, you are taking the first real step towards understanding the deep and meaningful complexities and behaviours within society. The subject is an umbrella, under which sits the many elements that make up the human world, from cultural and social structures to inter-human relationships and our tribal nature.

Through GCSE Sociology, you can begin to expand your understanding of key social structures, processes and issues through the study of families, education, crime and deviance and social stratification.

You will develop your analytical, assimilation and communication skills by comparing and contrasting perspectives on a variety of social issues, constructing reasoned arguments, making substantiated judgements and drawing reasoned conclusions.

You will also learn how to apply various research methods to different sociological contexts, all of which will help you analyse and better understand the social world. With this knowledge and qualification, you will be able to pursue social studies at a higher level which could lead you towards careers in areas like Youth Work, Social Research, Community Development and more.

We don’t operate any physical classes or rigid timetables. Once you are enrolled, you can start learning straight away.

You will be given a dedicated login and you will have instant access to your course material and assignments. That means you can learn in a way that works for you, the only specific deadline to work towards is your exam – exam sittings are held once per year in May or June.

You will also have an expert Tutor to help you throughout your Sociology GCSE. They will provide guidance and give feedback on your assignments and are available to help you if you get stuck or need support with your studies.

Entry Requirements

You must complete at least 50% of the course and pass the associated assignments before you are eligible to be entered for the exams.

Average completion timeframe

The average time it takes to complete the course is 18 months.

The assessment consists of written exams

Exams required

Tutors & Exams will provide the exam centre and oversee the examination process.

Is Membership Required?

No membership is required to enrol on this course.

Certification Timeframe

You can expect to receive your certificate 3 months after receiving the result.

Extension Rules

£40 for six months, maximum of twice. If expired more than six months ago, or have already had two extensions, then they need to restart the course and pay again.

Course Fees

All course fees, inclusive of all payment plans including our Premium Credit Limited option, must be settled before certification can be ordered.

*You will have access to the course for 24 months.

At the end of each module, you will find a Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA), which you will complete online and submit to your Tutor for marking. Once assessed, your Tutor will return your work complete with its final grade and feedback. When you’ve successfully passed each assignment you’ll be ready to take your exam!

*Please note, the qualification will be graded on a nine-point scale: 1 to 9 – where 9 is the best grade.

Tutors and Exams

Tutors and Exams provide examination and assessment facilities primarily aimed at private and home educated candidates.

Tutors and Exams currently have five examination centres located around the country: Bolton, Coventry, Doncaster, St Neots Cambridgeshire and Wimbledon. All are approved for examination delivery by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ).

In addition to their examination centres, they also have a dedicated Science laboratory based in Birmingham with the ability to deliver A Level Science practicals all year round and access to another Science laboratory located in London.

Upon successful completion of the modules and the exam at the end of the course, you will have gained a GCSE in Sociology. This will enable you to progress to further and higher education programmes.

Developing your career

A GCSE in Sociology allows you to go on to study at A Level, complete an RQF or an Access to Higher Education Diploma. All of which can allow you to go on to study Sociology or other Social Sciences at degree level.
